INTRODUCTION

Each pair of Sidekicks' crutches is custom-made to the specific measurements of the user. As a result, the first step in creating your crutches begins with you providing us with your measurements. There are two ways of obtaining these measurements, either from existing crutches that you are replacing, or directly from your body if you do not have existing crutches. Detailed instructions for both of these methods are provided below.

After you have taken these measurements, please contact us with your information and we can begin the fun part...talking about the unique look and style of the crutches that will best fit your personality and preferences.

Select your preferred method for measurements:

If you are replacing existing crutches

If you do not have crutches

If you are replacing existing crutches

The following step-by-step instructions will guide you through the measurements required. When you have completed these measurements, contact Sidekicks with your information. When reporting these numbers, be sure to indicate that these measurements were taken from existing crutches.

Introduction

Measure your existing crutches for measurements (see figure at right).

A Measurement: the distance from arm cuff to handle on the backside of the crutch.

B Measurement: the distance from the crutch handle to the floor on the backside of the crutch (include the crutch tip in measurement).

C Measurement: the existing arm cuff's diameter

D Measurement: the opening of the arm cuff.

The following step-by-step instructions will guide you through the individual measurements required.

How to take the A Measurement:

Measure from the bottom of the crutch tip to the hand grip on the backside of the crutch (see figure at right).

How to take the B Measurement:

Measure from the bottom of the crutch tip to the hand grip on the back side of the crutch (see figure at right). If you are unsure of the exact measurement here, add an inch. The crutch tip can always be shortened later.

How to take the C Measurement:

Measure your existing arm cuff's diameter at the area where it is widest (see figure at right).

How to take the D Measurement:

Measure the opening of your existing arm cuff (see figure at right).

If you DO NOT have existing crutches

The following step-by-step instructions will guide you through measurements required from individuals that do not have existing crutches. These measurements will be taken directly from your body.

When you have completed these measurements, contact Sidekicks with your information and preferences. When reporting these numbers, be sure to indicate that these measurements were taken from your body, not from existing crutches.

Correct arm cuff location:

You must first establish the location for the arm cuff for your specific body type. Hold your arm at a 90 degree angle and measure up from your elbow (see figure at right). If you are average height, the arm cuff should be 3 inches from your elbow. If you are taller, give yourself more room...4 inches from your elbow. If you are shorter, allow less room...2 inches from your elbow.

Mark this point on you arm, as you will use it in the next step.

How to take the A Measurement:

Bend your elbow at a 90 degree angle and make a fist. Measure from the desired distance from your elbow (from previous step) to the center of your fist (see figure at right).

How to take the B Measurement:

You will likely need a friend to help you with this measurement. Stand against a wall to keep your balance. Let your arms fall naturally down by your sides in a relaxed position. Make a fist and measure from the inside of your grip down to the floor (see figure at right).

Note: To ensure that you will be comfortable with your new crutches, you want the most accurate measurement possible. If you are unsure about your measurement, add an inch to your B measurement. You can saw the tips off later if it is too long.

How to take the C Measurement:

With a string or soft tape measure, measure the thickest part of your forearm (see figure at right).

How to take the D Measurement:

With a string or soft tape measure, measure your wrist (see figure at right).
